It took 16 months for iPhone App Development companies, 20 months for Windows App Developers, and 24 months for the Android App Developers to publish 100,000 apps in the iTunes app store iTunes App Store, Windows Marketplace Google Play (the market place for Android Apps and Games) respectively.
A little over 300 new apps are added to Windows Marketplace every day.
“App developers have published 100,145 applications in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Microsoft’s mobile app store reached this key point in 20 months (Zeman).” This mark is impressive for the rapidly growing windows market: 100,145 applications have been published – only 88,371 apps are live with only 77,450 apps available to the US market. The US market is the largest in the world; with the UK and Australia trailing behind.
Moreover, two-thirds of the Windows Mobile Applications available for download from the Marketplace are free of cost. About 10% are paid apps and offer a free trial, and the remaining 23% are paid. Of the paid apps, 62% cost $0.99. App pricing ranges as high as $30, but the percentage of apps costing more than $10 is a only 5.71%.
